Program Overview

INtro to basketball is designed to teach basic fundamentals and promote a love for the game! Currently OMGBA offers both Fall and Winter sessions.

Who: Boys and Girls enrolled in Kindergarten - 2nd Grade at a public or private school OR live in the Osseo High School or Maple Grove High School attendance areas.

Where: All Intro to Basketball sessions are held at Rush Creek Elementary School on specified Saturday mornings.

Cost: $70

Program Information:   We form groups and rely on parent/adult volunteers to assist with providing instruction and feedback to players.   The first two weeks will focus on essential basketball skills such as ball handling, lay-ups, short-shots, passing, and defense.  In week 3, we will introduce 3 on 3 games to help players put their skills together in a fun and encouraging environment.  It will provide players with experience playing with teammates, moving without the ball and preparing for the 1st grade program where there is more game play.

Participants in this program will use a 27.5 size ball and shoot at an 8 1/2 foot basket. If you choose to bring a ball for your player, it needs to be a 27.5" ball.

Interested in Volunteering? Please include that when submitting your registration online. No experience is necessary. The only requirement is a willingness to cheer on our young players as they develop a love for the game.  All skills are taught/demonstrated so previous experience/basketball knowledge is not necessary.

In order for this program to remain successful, volunteers are needed!
