Volunteer Opportunities

Important Message From The President

OMGBA provides a great basketball experience for about 2000 players at a very affordable price. Unfortunately a number of long time board members whose children have long since graduated have stepped down and we need your help. Many board members are performing multiple volunteer jobs and as you can see below by the list of openings, we need your help to keep the program going at the same quality level and at the same value.

Interested In Volunteering?

Many positions don't require basketball knowledge and many don't require membership on the board. Some of the positions have historically been done by one person, but could be split up into 2 or 3 positions if you only are interested in one aspect of a position.

Our volunteers help with coaching, scheduling practices, games, and referees, as well as organizing tournaments, supervising tournament sites, concessions, and clinics. A volunteer places orders for all the uniforms, awards, and equipment and another handles our insurance. Even this web page is maintained by a board member.

We especially need help from our Traveling Team Parents for the boys and girls tournaments we host each November. All traveling player's parents are expected to help. Some areas we need help are running the scorebook, the time clock, concessions, the gate, site supervisor, and more. We've got multiple locations to staff over a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so we need lots of volunteers. Your help is appreciated.

Running a community basketball organization serving about 2000 kids each year is a lot of work made easier by lots of volunteers, but we really could use more help.

If you can step up and help out the kids, even just for a few hours, please contact the OMGBA President for more information, or attend an OMGBA Board Meeting which are held the 3rd Monday of every month (except July - no meeting) at the Maple Grove Community Center (except June - we meet offsite) at 7:00p.m.

Open Positions

Jr. High Coordinator - There are 2 positions open here - 7th Grade Boys and 7th Grade Girls. With no basketball program in the 7th-8th grade Jr. Highs, this program is even more important and we need multiple volunteers. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Jr. High Tournament Director - The Jr. High House (7th-8th grade) program hosts one tournament in mid-February and then a post season playoff tournament. Duties involved include creating brackets, seeding the teams, communicating with coaches, coordinator volunteers, working with the OMGBA Admin who will secure permits, working with the Recognition Coordinator who will secure trophies, etc. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Gaming Manager - No basketball experience required. It is an important fund raiser for OMGBA in order so that ultimately we can help fund a new facility. We have two gaming sites presently, and have an accountant do much of the taxes, forms, etc. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Sr. High Coordinator - There are 2 positions open here - 10th-11th Grade Boys and 9th-12th Grade Girls. Vice President - The VP oversees scholarships and criminal background checks on coaches, and fills in for the President in his/her absence. It is expected, but not guaranteed, that the Vice President will become the President as early as the next year, although it could be later if the President services multiple terms. The President's primary duties are to set the agenda for board meetings and to conduct the meetings, in addition to filling volunteer spots and dealing with complaints.
