Volunteer Opportunities

Important Message From The President

OMGBA provides a great basketball experience for about 2000 players at a very affordable price. Unfortunately a number of long time board members whose children have long since graduated have stepped down and we need your help. Many board members are performing multiple volunteer jobs and as you can see below by the list of openings, we need your help to keep the program going at the same quality level and at the same value.

Two critical positions are Elementary Commissioner and Junior House Commissioner. Fortunately the previous commissioners are still on the board performing other tasks, so they can help train an support their replacement.

If we don't get people to step up soon, we may be forced to hire someone and increase fees in order to maintain the same high quality the community requires.

Interested In Volunteering?

Many positions don't require basketball knowledge and many don't require membership on the board. Some of the positions have historically been done by one person, but could be split up into 2 or 3 positions if you only are interested in one aspect of a position.

Our volunteers help with coaching, scheduling practices, games, and referees, as well as organizing tournaments, supervising tournament sites, concessions, and clinics. A volunteer places orders for all the uniforms, awards, and equipment and another handles our insurance. Even this web page is maintained by a board member.

We especially need help from our Traveling Team Parents for the boys and girls tournaments we host each November. All traveling player's parents are expected to help. Some areas we need help are running the scorebook, the time clock, concessions, the gate, site supervisor, and more. We've got multiple locations to staff over a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so we need lots of volunteers. Your help is appreciated.

Running a community basketball organization serving about 2000 kids each year is a lot of work made easier by lots of volunteers, but we really could use more help.

If you can step up and help out the kids, even just for a few hours, please contact the OMGBA President for more information, or attend an OMGBA Board Meeting which are held the 3rd Monday of every month (except July - no meeting) at the Maple Grove Community Center (except June - we meet offsite) at 7:00p.m.

Open Positions

Osseo Girls Traveling Coordinator - This is one of 4 traveling coordinator positions. No basketball experience required, but you do need to be organized, task oriented, and comfortable with email. This position does not require being a board member nor attending every board meeting. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Elementary Commissioner - This is an important position that will need to work closely with the board member who was the commissioner for the past several years, and who remains active on the board but now as a scheduler. Email president@omgab.net for more info.

Jr. High Commissioner - This is an important position for us to fill, as the previous commissioner has moved up to the Sr. High Commissioner position (so he's around and willing to teach/help). No basketball experience required, but you do need to be organized, task oriented, and comfortable with email. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Jr. High Coordinator - There are 2 positions open here - 7th Grade Boys and 7th Grade Girls. With no basketball program in the 7th-8th grade Jr. Highs, this program is even more important and we need multiple volunteers. No basketball experience required, but you do need to be organized, task oriented, and comfortable with email. This position does not require being a board member nor attending every board meeting. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Gaming Manager - No basketball experience required. This position DOES require being a board member. It is an important fund raiser for OMGBA in order so that ultimately we can afford our own facility. We have two gaming sites presently, and have an accountant do much of the taxes, forms, etc. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Sr. High Coordinator - There are 2 positions open here - 10th-11th Grade Boys and 9th-12th Grade Girls. No basketball experience required, but you do need to be organized, task oriented, and comfortable with email. This position does not require being a board member nor attending every board meeting. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Concessions Manager(s) - No basketball experience required. This position does not require being a board member, nor attending every board meeting. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

  • This year's team, which includes 2 traveling team's parents, did an excellent job and will be around to help guide next year. They've documented everything, so a smooth transition to someone new couldn't be easier. This task involves coordinating the Concessions Team's ordering of the food, picking it up, getting our supplies from storage, delivering to the various sites, setting up, taking it down, and returning leftovers for the two traveling tournaments we hold in November before Thanksgiving. Each Traveling Team is responsible for volunteering to run the concessions, so you don't have that responsibilty, although you coordinate it with the two Traveling Tournament Directors.

Insurance Coordinator - No basketball experience required. We carry insurance for our board members and operations. It renews annually. We also carry workman's compensation for our pull tab booth employees. This position does not require attending every board meeting. Email president@omgba.net for more info.

Webmaster - No basketball experience required. Duties include creating team pages (simple), providing editing access, update calendar and fees each year, and as things need tweaking. Existing webmaster will train new webmaster and hopefully at some point hand over the reigns but remain a backup. Email president@omgba.net (the current webmaster) for more info.
