New Rule - No Earrings Allowed

Starting December 1st, 2007, the OMGBA referees have been instructed to no longer allow earrings to be worn during an OMGBA basketball event.

This new rule was primarily passed at the November board meeting to eliminate insurance risks for our association (there is an example of a youth participant in Texas winning a lawsuit against a local basketball association for health costs to repair a torn ear lobe caused by a game accident while wearing a tape-covered earring).

This new OMGBA rule is consistent with the current Minnesota Youth Athletic Services (MYAS) rule related to earrings.  MYAS is the organization that coordinates many of the basketball events for the traveling basketball programs and weekend Super Saver tournaments across the State of Minnesota.
